A message of hope from one of our current youth
“It was a crisp, chilly evening when I first stood at the doorstep of Horizons for Youth shelter, unsure of what the next chapter of my life would hold. The shelter’s large wooden doors loomed before me like an uncertain gateway, but the moment they swung open, my heart lifted. A warm, welcoming smile greeted me, and suddenly, I wasn’t just a stranger, I was at home.
The staff, their faces glowing with kindness, wrapped me in a sense of belonging I hadn’t felt in a long time. I stepped into a space where the air buzzed with possibility, and immediately, I knew something special was waiting for me inside. The journey ahead wasn’t going to be easy, but it was going to be mine, and it was already brighter than I had expected.
The shelter transformed from a simple refuge into a place where dreams began to take shape. Programs offered new experiences, new perspectives, and opportunities to learn and grow. I’ll never forget the excitement of signing up for a camp trip to Georgian Bay, where I learned about teamwork and unity. It was there that I felt the strength of shared goals and realized I belonged to something greater.
And it wasn’t just about the activities—it was the people. At Horizons for Youth, I met friends who, like me, had faced life’s toughest challenges, but here, we were all free to hope again. The staff believed in me, listened to my dreams, and helped me break down my goals into achievable steps. They gave me the tools I needed to rebuild my life. And most importantly, they gave me hope. It was priceless.
As the holiday season approaches, I am reminded of the warmth and hope I found at Horizons for Youth. I’m incredibly grateful for the new beginnings and brighter future that were made possible by the people who believe in me and the shelter’s work.”

On behalf of the Board of directors, our staff team and most importantly our youth at Horizons for Youth, I would like to express our heartfelt appreciation for your generosity is truly invaluable and enables us to further our mission to shelter, prepare and guide homeless and at-risk youth to achieve wellness and become contributing community members.
Thanks to your donations, volunteering and overall contributions. Because of your support, we are able to feed, shelter and provide a safe and caring environment for over 300 youth per year. One hundred percent of the youth we serve have had access to mental health and wellness programming, counseling sessions and supports. We served over 49,000 meals to youth in 2024. With the thoughtful support of donors like you, we are able to provide youth with the support they need to escape from the cycle of poverty and leave the streets behind.
