Horizons for Youth is more than a shelter.
We provide at-risk and homeless youth in Toronto with programs helping them improve their mental health, find employment, learn important life skills, and secure stable housing.
Help support the mental health and wellbeing of at-risk youth.
Over 80% of homeless youth experience extreme cases of mental health distress, and many face barriers to accessing the support they need. Over the last year and a half, there has been an alarming increase in mental health challenges amongst Toronto’s youth.
At Horizons for Youth, the journey for a young person begins with our Mental Health & Wellness program. Through one-on-one counselling sessions, wellness workshops, and more, our residents develop healthy coping strategies to manage their mental health challenges and heal from trauma.
Many of the youth we help experience trauma such as physical, sexual, emotional, or verbal abuse or neglect by parents, loss of a loved one, addictions battles, and household poverty. Many go undiagnosed and untreated for mental illness and are often called "violent" and "the problem in Toronto."
At Horizons for Youth, we aim to provide individualized care that caters to the resident's needs.
$25 will give 11 residents nutritious meals that promote mental wellness.
$50 will provide youth with 16 public transit rides to travel to and from medical and wellness appointments.
$100 will assist the Mental Health & Wellness Counselor to buy materials for the two wellness workshops that take place each week.
$250 will provide residents with 16 hours of one-on-one mental health and wellness counselling.
$500 will purchase holiday gifts for 10 residents, spreading joy during this difficult season for many.
